About the site
The Nature and Myths page helps users find the perfect place for a nature trip in Croatia. For each location, information is available about the location on the map, the duration of the trip, the difficulty of the trail and the rating.
To make your choice easier, the trips are divided into three categories: waterside trips, hiking and nature walks. In addition to useful information, each location is enriched with myths and legends and descriptions of mythical beings that, according to tradition, can be encountered there. The site currently features the most comprehensive known index of Croatian mythical beings and a map that reveals where these mysterious beings appear.
This site is my hobby – it is currently non-commercial and completely free. If you would like to support the project, please rate the locations and suggest new, beautiful places in nature. In the meantime, I will continue to research and add new content.
About the author
I love walking and being in nature. I love my homeland. I visited a large number of the places described on the site and enjoyed each of them. I have also always been fascinated by folk tales and legends.
I have tried to collect tales of supernatural beings, mythical places, Old Slavic myths and folk tales and connect them with locations in Croatia. This hobby has resulted in extensive documentation, only a small part of which is published on the site. Since I do not have strong artistic skills, artificial intelligence has greatly helped me in creating the content.
Disclaimer
For accurate information about excursion routes, please use the links provided on the site or other reliable sources. I visited many of the locations several years ago, so it is possible that significant changes have occurred in the meantime.
The descriptions and difficulty ratings of the trails are based on my subjective impression. The duration of the excursion usually indicates the period from the starting point (the place where you leave your car) to the return to the same location. Depending on your pace and the chosen route, there may be significant deviations.
If you notice any errors, please report them to me.
Communication
There is a contact e-mail address on the site. I will try to respond to messages in a reasonable time, but given that I have many hobbies, please be patient.
Your comments will not be automatically published on the site. Since I am responsible for the content, I will publish comments only after reviewing and approving them. Thank you for your understanding!
Sources
All sources used for information about supernatural beings, mythical places, Old Slavic myths and folk tales are listed on the site. I did not conduct a strict selection of the reliability of the sources, since it is mostly a retelling of folk tales.
I would especially like to highlight the Multimedia Portal Treasures & Mysteries (Blaga & Misterije) as a significant source of ideas.
The data on the excursions was mostly collected based on my own visits, but the following sites provided me with significant help and recommendations (unfortunately, the sites are in Croatian):
- Croatian Mountaineering Association
- Mountaineering (Planinarenje.hr)
- Wikipedija
